Last Friday, I received an email from Warner Bros about this early screening for a new Hugh Jackman film that somehow managed to slip under my radar. I instantly looked up the trailer and was intrigued. Not only because of the fact it's HUGH JACKMAN on the big screen for the first time in 2021 but because this story captivated me within what was 167 seconds of the trailer. I took notice that the film is written and directed by a unique mind, Lisa Joy. The same Lisa Joy Nolan that brought Westworld to HBO. The staff put together an amazing cast in this film including Hugh Jackman, Thandiwe Newton, Rebecca Ferguson, Cliff Curtis, Angela Sarafyan, and more. It is refreshing to see when a well-written script, outstanding scoring, and great actors come together that it creates something like this. This psychological sci-fi love story submerges viewers in a world that could take place in what very could be our not too distant future if we do not get our hands on climate control. Along the journey, we follow Nick Bannister (Jackman), an entrepreneur who has created a very lucrative business idea that allows users in this bleak realm to relive their favorite memories and escape from the terrors they face. Nick is a middle-aged man who seemingly has never fallen in love until he's met Mae (Rebecca Ferguson). This isn't your typical boy meets girl love story and this film has quite a few twists and turns, it kept me guessing and at the edge of my seat. The only time I was not at the edge of my seat was when I had to get up and get some snacks for the munchies. A great film to see stoned, the visuals and graphics artist did very well creating what wasn't achieved on sets. The CGI at points had me locked in just as much as the acting and scoring. I give this movie 4.20 / 5.0 joints only because it felt a little rushed at some points. Having more screen time never hurt anyone. Even with that said, it is on the recommended list. View the trailer for Reminiscence, which comes out worldwide in theaters and on HBO Max on Friday, August 19, 2021.
